The domestication project was a project we did in biology. It was learning about behaviors of domestic animals. We all could pick our own questions to study. My question was how does the age of a horse determine training difficulty? I picked it because what I do is work with horses and I wanted to know if age affected anything. Well it does the older the horse the harder to train. I collected my information or data by training the horses. I did series of training sessions on two horses. One yearling and one two year old. The two year old was the hardest. My future question is why does age affect training?
Comparative Anatomy Project -Dissection Week
Observed Dissections:
Squid-
Gills are hot pink.
Squids have 3 hearts.
Ink sac is full of postmortem.
Egg sac was found full of tiny yellow transparent eggs.
My dissection- Fetal Pig:
Why the Fetal Pig? Humans and pigs are both mammals so their anatomy is very similar. For example, almost all of the main structures and systems are the same. I choose to dissect a pig because it seemed the most interesting to me. I'm very interested in how the human anatomy works, and I knew the pig is very similar. I could learn more about both. A very interesting fact is you can use pig skin and I believe a pigs spine to replace a humans! Interesting right? How do Fetal Pigs compare to Humans? Many of the main structures and organs of the pig is similar to humans. There is one that stands out the most that is the heart. Much like the human heart, pig’s hearts have two atrium, two ventricles, four valves and an aorta. The differences of humans and pigs is very low, the anatomy of a pig has minor changes. For example, the liver of a pig has 5 lobes. The human liver has 4.
Feeding: Pigs are omnivores, which means they eat plants and animals. Pigs eat plants, cereal, grain, hay, small bugs, ETC. Pigs are one of the only animals that chew their food. Lifestages:
Pigs normally live from 8-15 years.
The gestation period for pigs is about 3 months.
It takes about 6 months to grow fully.
Ecosystem: Pigs are not an animal that migrates, so they normally inhabit areas with good climate. While they can survive in colder climates, they prefer to live in warm temperatures.
